Prison Libraries Resources Updated

ASGCLA’s Library Services to the Incarcerated and Detained Interest Group has updated and added resources to the Prison Libraries page in ASGCLADirect.org/Resources. You will find links to the ALA “Prisoner’s Right to Read” statement, as well as Books, an Interview with Glennor Shirley, a listing of Organizations, and a link to the Ear Hustle Podcast featuring episodes of daily life inside prison.

Reports, articles, webinars, and information about jail and prison libraries and for the jail and prison librarians are included in the Publications and Resources sections. New listings include the 2019 UNESCO report “Books beyond bars: The transformative potential of prison libraries” and reports, statistics and training from the Nation Institute of Corrections found on the Data-Driven Librarianship on Corrections site.
