This webinar covers veteran resources, collection development, making your spaces and services more welcoming to veterans, and outreach to them. Unique needs will be discussed in the context of discharging from the service, coming home from theaters of combat, and medical and psychological issues that effect veterans more than other groups. Do’s and Don’ts will also be discussed in regards to interacting with veterans and putting on events.
The presenter, JJ Pionke, an Applied Health Sciences Librarian at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, will share information on successful exhibits he has run as well as interviewing veterans for the Library of Congress Veteran History Project. His research revolves around disability and the library.
By the end of this webinar, you will have a working knowledge of:
- The unique needs of veterans in terms of accessibility and outreach
- The collection development needs of veterans, especially those just mustering out of the service
- How to reach and make contact with your local veteran population
