New interest group petitions ahead of the merger

Petitions to form two new Interest Groups are now active, in preparation for new members when the Federal and Armed Forces Round Table (FAFLRT) and ASCLA merge to form the Association of Specialized, Government, and Cooperative Library Agencies (ASGCLA) in September, 2018.

The Federal Libraries Interest Group petition form (must log in), has been submitted by Richard Huffine, a librarian with the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau. He has also agreed to serve as the Interest Group leader/facilitator for 2018/2019.

The Armed Forces Libraries Interest Group petition form (must log in), has been submitted by Janice Young. The leader/facilitator for the 2018/2019 is Renee Sanning of the US Air Force Academy Library.

Each petition needs 10 signatures before December 31. Interested ASCLA members can log in to the ALA petition site and “sign” the petition to indicate an interest in joining one of the new Interest Groups. ASCLA (ASGCLA) members may join as many Interest Groups as they wish at no cost. Instructions, entitled “How Do I Join an Interest Group?” appear on the Interest Group page of ASCLADirect.

ASCLA offers thanks to the members who are supporting the petitions and to the members who have volunteered to be the first leaders. Anyone interested in helping with the launch of these Interest Groups, can contact the ASCLA office or the volunteer leaders.
